Our Mission: Create a sustainable future in which wolves and people share a healthy ecosystem.

California Wolf Center's focus is primarily on two fronts: Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery and California Wolf Recovery.

CWC has been an active member of the AZA SAFE Mexican Wolf program since its early inception almost 30 years ago when it was part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP). Since being listed as critically endangered in 1976, the AZA SAFE Mexican Wolf program has successfully brought Mexican Wolf wild populations from just 7 individuals to close to 300 individuals throughout parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico.

Since 2011 wolves have been naturally dispersing into California. In 2014 the first resident pack was established and wolves have lived in the state continuously ever since. Unlike other famous reintroduction efforts like Yellowstone or Colorado, there has never been a release program for wolves into California. Wolves are naturally dispersing into California thanks to legal protections. Through CWC's conservation efforts and public education, we work to ensure that wolves, livestock, and people can peacefully thrive in today's world.
