  • It’s usually recommended to identify a dollar amount versus a percentage of the estate. 

  • Be sure to note that it is given “for their general charitable purposes” as an unrestricted donation. This gives the organization flexibility to use the funds as needs change over the years.

Specific Bequest Example Wording

“I give $_______ to California Wolf Center, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Julian, CA.” - Or - “I give the following described property to California Wolf Center, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Julian, CA.: ____________________________.

 

Residuary Bequest Example Wording

“I give all (or a specific dollar amount/property) of the remainder of my estate to California Wolf Center, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Julian, CA.” Contingent Bequest: “In the event (primary beneficiary) does not survive me, I give said amount to California Wolf Center, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Julian, CA.”

Endowed Bequest Example Wording

This bequest requires California Wolf Center to hold the funds permanently and use only the distributable earnings. Your gift continues giving in perpetuity. As an example: “I give (amount, description of asset, remainder, etc.) to California Wolf Center, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Julian, CA, for the purpose of contributing to wild wolf conservation in perpetuity.
